Haragden played both baseball and basketball at Georgetown, being named All-American in the latter. On the court, he lead GU in scoring all three years. He would play some pro basketball, but worked for the FBI before becoming an algebra teacher, basketball coach, football coach, and eventually an athletic director at Loyola High School in Baltimore. After quitting coaching in 1968, he was named commissioner of Maryland Scholastic Association.

He married Mary Miller in 1938 and they had a son and three daughters.
