Chadwick was a star player at Wabash College and played with Fort Wayne for six years. He took a job with Firestone in 1932 and also played on their basketball team through 1937 when he quit the game. He stayed employed at Firestone in 1946 when he co-founded his own companny, Rice-Chadwick Rubber Company, and retired in 1961.

He was married to Evelyn Bales (1908-1983) and they had one daughter.
