Allen joined the All-Americans in his hometown of Syracuse in 1928, and the team joined the ABL in the next season. However, the All-Americans folded near the end of the first half of the season, and Allen was sent to the Centrals for the remainder of the season. He moved over to the Bruins in 1930, but before the end of the season was returned to Rochester. He bounced around a few indie teams in New York before signing with the Bisons of the Midwest Conference.

He was married to Harriet Sickly Just.
