Lefkowitz served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War 2. After graduating in 1947, he signed with the Rebels, and when the Rebels folded at the end of the season, Hank was sold To Baltimore, but he chose to leave the game. He worked for Dover Construction for just under 20 years.

He married Joan Rubin and they had two sons and a daughter.
