Norris played basketball and football at Butler, and was even offered a contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers but turned it down. He signed with the Kautskys and played a season before serving with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War 2. He returned to play a few more season for Indianapolis. After his playing days, he worked in the insurance business.
Norris married Virginia Jordan (1921-2013) in 1942, and they had four children: two sons, Jeff and Kim, and two daughters, Jennifer Kreitl and Kelly Grimes.
