Born to Talmadge and Myrtie Blacklidge in 1920, Blacklidge attended Rainey HS before going to Jones JC. After two years an Jones, he transferred to Delta State where he became the school's first All-Americab. He went north to play with Sheboygan in 1941. He worked as an insurance agent for many years. He died of an undisclosed illness (possibly kidney related, based on his memorial information.) in 1972. Boston Red Sox pitcher Boo Ferriss was a pallbearer.
He was married to Alice Neff and they had a son, Robert Lane Blacklidge, and a daughter.
