Born in Chicago to Stanley and Jadwiga Szukala, Stan was a star athlete at Schurz HS before becoming All-American at DePaul. In the 1940 pro basketball tournmanent, playing on a team of collegians, Szukala hit a a half-court shot at the end of overtime to defeat the Harlem Globetrotters. He signed with the Bruins and played two years before serving the military in World War 2. He returned to basketball after the war, playing two seasons with the Geras and one more season with the Grand Rapids team in the PBLA. He later worked as a salesman for a freight company.
